The Locust Retribution is a readable, unusual and intriguing novella, set in a changing Southern Africa. The central character Jock develops an awareness of the harshness of apartheid, colour paranoia, and untenable social engineering.
He experiences South Africa as a land of plenty - beguiling and paradoxical. A land threatened by poverty, corruption and violence. So much so, that in 1985 he planned the emigration of family to England. Jock and Colette still live in SA, content their daughters are more secure in the UK. Maybe a land grab banana republic won't descend on South Africa ...

Finished!!!! I loved it. Yes, I will give feedback on Amazon as soon as I am in a wifi area again with my Kindle. I loved your easy writing style. I did not have to go look up words. Your bluntness about the "under the blanket escapades" amused me and made me blush a bit. I still feel like an 18 yr old virgin!!! You gave us a tour of SA and Zim. You described all the buffoons (won't name them here) so well. Your historical additions brought back lots of memories. Jock was blissfully unaware of skin colour as a child, exactly as I was until he had his reality check in good (bad) old South Africa with the advent of "Hitler" Verwoerd!! I still believe if every person in the country of any race went to the same schools then, and had the same education we would all have been on a par with most things today. The old Government lied and stole from us and the present Government is doing the same. I love the fact that you brought this all into your book along with all the fun Jock had during his lifetime; drinking with his buddies at various waterholes, hiking, etc. I loved the relationship between Patience, Simon and Jock who almost took on a father figure for Simon. A very sad ending for poor Simon, but a great ending for Benson!!! Most of all, Jock's love for his Colette and his daughters shone through!!! When will the next book be out????I wanted to post a review on The Locust Retribution by Alan Hancock on my Kindle, but for some unknown reason am not able to.
So I will add a bit to what I have already mentioned on Facebook:
(I won't mention the "50 Shades of Grey" again) The book has a very bright, happy and uncluttered cover. I was drawn in from page 1. Usually I don't like to read the resume and the thank you's in the front of the book. Even the chapters - who bothers with them anyway? This was cleverly tucked into the back of the book with notes from the author. The facts are trustworthy (I checked them), there are opinions and claims by the writer, which are very reasonable and factual. There were no errors in the book, spelling, typo's or grammar. The writing style is easy and fun - never a boring moment. The vocabulary is easy but not childish. I only put my Kindle down when I had to go do something or fell asleep with it. The information is objective, (the writer is not biased and the topic is very appropriate in the new South Africa). The book was aimed at an audience who lived before apartheid, during apartheid and after apartheid. The writer clearly did a lot of research and the book exceeded my expectations. The author is clearly qualified and has expertise in writing a non-fictional or fictional book.
I highly recommend this book - you will not want to put it down.

THE LOCUST RETRIBUTION eBook Alan Hancock Reviews
An amazingly insightful, true and objective depiction of South Africa as experienced by South Africans! A well written book! Thank you Alan Hancock for sharing , I am looking forward to reading your next book!
Loved the book, ,living in a new country, Australia and far away from South Africa, we tend to look back on the past, why we moved, have we done the right thing and then I happened upon this book, which I downloaded onto kindle, read it and it brought back so many sad and good memories and made me think again about South Africa and its complex problems, it was a quick book to read, humorous and funny and the good thing is i now keep in contact via facebook with the author that will let me know of any new books, happenings of interest in Sout Africa.
So I recommend it.
